Not illustrated. 1883 Excerpt: ...But mediaries. a difficulty arose with regard to cases where the person applying for the grant lived in a different district from that in which the deceased had his fixed place of abode where he died. The grant, unless made by the principal registry, can only be made by the registrar of the district where the deceased resided (see 20 21 Vict. c. 77, s. 46), and the registrar of the district where the applicant lived could not be called upon to act as the medium of obtaining the grant from the foreign district registrar. It became necessary, therefore, to confer authority to act under this section upon revenue officers in district registry towns as well as upon those in towns where no registry exists. A list of the towns where they are so appointed will be found in the appendix, post, at p. xxviii. It should be added, however, that English revenue officers do not act as intermediaries for obtaining Irish grants, or vice versd. A notice in writing in the prescribed form.--Specimens of the forms will be found in the appendix,post, at p. xxxvi. They have been so drawn as to be available for use by the revenue officer, but they may be easily altered so as to make them available for use by the person applying for the grant. The revenue officer, on receipt of the proper notice and fee of fifteen shillings, retains and files the notice, and fills up a fresh form on a fifteen-shilling stamp, which he transmits to the proper district registry or to the principal registry as the case may be, whence the necessary documents will be forwarded for completion. (See the directions, appendix, post, at p. xxxi.)
